The secret to the EL196E’s silent running is no secret: a fully-insulated cabinet and a Power Saver constant torque motor.

The Power Saver motor in the EL196E provides more consistent airflow for improved comfort while operating more efficiently than a standard motor.

Its Dual-fuel capability can be combined with an electric heat pump to enhance comfort and fuel efficiency by alternating between electric and gas heat, optimizing energy use, and minimizing heating costs.

As long as the temperature outside is above 35°F or so, a heat pump can draw heat from the outside air for less than it costs to fire up the furnace. The furnace kicks in for only the coldest months. Heat pumps save energy because moving heat is easier than making it. Interestingly, even when it feels cold outside, there is still a decent amount of heat waiting to be pumped. Under ideal conditions, a heat pump can move 300 percent more energy than it consumes.
